The most common mistake in buying a kit is picking a height first and working backwards. The better order is: decide what the truck needs to do, pick the tire size you want to run, and let those two answers choose the kit.
Start with how the truck gets used
A truck that mostly stays on the road — daily driving, work, errands — usually wants a different setup than one that spends real time off the pavement or needs clearance. Be honest about the split. The right kit for the truck you actually drive beats the biggest kit for a truck you imagine driving twice a year.
A leveling kit fixes the stance
Most trucks leave the factory sitting nose-down — that is the factory rake. A leveling kit raises just the front to match the rear. It is the right answer when the goal is an even stance and a modest tire step-up, and the truck's job does not change.
A lift kit makes room
A lift kit raises the whole vehicle. That is the choice when the tire size you want needs real room, or when ground clearance is the point. Bigger is not automatically better — it is only better when the tire and the use call for it.
A lowering kit is its own job
Lowering drops the ride height for stance and handling. It is not a smaller lift; it is a different goal, chosen on purpose.
Two checks before you order anything
Towing and hauling. Leveling takes out the factory rake, and that rake is part of how a truck sits under a load. If you tow or haul, say so up front — the setup should be planned for a truck that works, not just one that looks level empty.
Finished height. A kit plus bigger tires makes the truck taller than it was. Measure the garage, the carport, and anywhere else the truck has to fit before the parts are ordered, not after they are on.
The job should finish in one shop
Ride height changes alignment angles — there is no version of this job that skips the alignment. At Southern KY Tire Pros in Glasgow, KY, when the shop installs your lift, leveling, or lowering kit, the alignment is on us, done in the same shop on the Hunter Hawkeye Elite rack, with tires and wheels mounted in the same visit. One shop, start to finish, so nothing gets handed off half-done.
Tell us what the truck needs to do and we will point you at the right kit. Call (270) 861-2003, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM. Walk-ins are welcome.
