There is no single mileage number that fits every vehicle. The right interval for your car or truck is the one in your owner's manual, for the oil your vehicle takes — a newer truck on full-synthetic and an older sedan do not run on the same schedule, and any page that gives you one number for everything is guessing.

Between scheduled changes, your vehicle usually tells you when the oil needs attention:

  • Dark, gritty oil on the dipstick. Fresh oil goes in clean and smooth. Oil that comes out dark and dirty has been working a long time.
  • A level that keeps dropping. If you are topping up between changes, something is using or losing oil — worth having looked at.
  • A louder engine, or ticking at start-up. Oil protects moving parts; old or low oil does not protect the way fresh oil does.
  • An oil or maintenance light on the dash. The vehicle has flagged it for a reason. Don't sit on it.
  • A burning-oil smell, or spots where you park. Those can point to a leak rather than just old oil — that is repair work, and it is better caught early.

Getting it done in Glasgow

Oil changes at Southern KY Tire Pros are done in a family-owned tire and repair shop by ASE-certified techs — the same shop that handles your tires, brakes, and alignments on the 18,000-lb Hunter rack. Walk-ins are welcome Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM at 1004 Happy Valley Rd, Glasgow, KY 42141 (closed Saturday and Sunday). Call (270) 861-2003 or book through the contact page.

If we spot a tire wearing unevenly or a front-end issue starting while your vehicle is with us, we will tell you straight — tires and front ends are what this shop is built around.
