Shopping for tires usually starts with a brand name. It works better the other way around: size first, then how the vehicle gets used, then the brand and model that fit both.
Find your size before anything else. The size is printed on the sidewall of the tires on the vehicle now. The size the vehicle left the factory with is also on the driver’s door placard and in the owner’s manual. If the tires on the vehicle are not the factory size, the placard and the manual are the record to trust. No size handy? The year, make, and model are enough for a shop to start from.
Match the tire to the work. A car that runs highway miles every day and a truck that tows or hauls do not ask the same thing of a tire. Load rating matters most on the vehicles that carry weight — a tire rated under the load will wear fast and run hot. Tell whoever is pricing the set how the vehicle actually gets used, not just what it is.
Changing size is a fitment question, not just a look. A bigger or wider tire than factory changes clearance and the way the vehicle drives, and it can rub if the fit is never checked. If you want a different size, have the fit checked on paper — vehicle, wheel, and tire together — before anything is ordered.
Compare the installed price, not the tire price. A tire price by itself is not the bill. Mounting, balancing, and TPMS are part of putting a set on, and they are handled in the same visit at Southern KY Tire Pros. If you found a tire online, bring the size and model name and ask for the installed figure — that is the honest comparison. We sell more tire brands than can be listed, and most of what you can find online, we can usually get for a better price, installed.
One last pairing worth making: a new set is the right time to check alignment. Even wear on the old set says the alignment held; uneven wear says the new set deserves a rack check before it inherits the same pattern. Hunter Hawkeye Elite alignments start at $89.99 on most vehicles at the shop.
